Suppose you have a delimited* text file and you need to bring it into Excel. Follow these steps… Go to the data tab and click on “from text” *Delimited means text separated into fields by a character such as a tab or a comma.
Choose delimited and then click next. Choose the type of character that is delimiting the fields. You will see the sample data below change when you pick the right one.
If you have a zip code field, be sure to switch the type of data to text, so you do not lose leading zeros. Then click finish and look at your data carefully to make sure everything went ok.
Save the file as an Excel workbook. You are now ready to use your address list in a mail merge.
