Toxins • Over 4 billion of toxins are released by the industry into the environment each year. • Lead poisoning is a big concern in the U.S. especially with children. • Superfund sites which are dump sites for garbage are potential public health risks.
Air & Water • Smog and Soot are the 2 main pollutants for poor air quality causing heart and lung disease as well as many other medical issues. • Over 200 toxins have been discovered in our air we breath; Florida being in the high twenty percent of states where cancer risk is greater. • Waterways however have become cleaner over the years due to pollution controls.
Animals • Two trillion pounds of animal waste are produced each year. • Many of this is due to livestock and manufactures. • This is one of Americas top pollution problems effecting our environment and drinking water. • Florida is the second highest of having animal waste.
Ways to decrease pollution • Driving less, carpool or ride a bike instead. • Air-Friendly products such as products that are water based or have low amounts of volatile organic compounds. • Save energy such as turning off stuff when done with it, insulation as well as low-flow shower heads. • Look for recycled products to spend $$$ on. Many stores such as Publix and Wal-Mart have reusable bags for groceries nowadays.
