MATHEMATICS • The revised CORE & Extended Designations document on the Mathematics Companion document page, released 4/09, addresses 2 things: • “Future Core” items in 2005 were Core items in the 2009 MEAP and will be assessed again in 2010 • “Focal Points” were also identified as the focus for instruction, rather than the original strands • Michigan Focal Points: Core and Extended Designations – addressing Core, Ext. Core, Fut. Core & NASL for Michigan’s 3-8 GLCEs
SCIENCE • Most questions will be coming from the Science Companion Documents in the areas of • Vocabulary • Assessment Clarification • Instruments, Measurements & Representations • Remember 8th grade students have only been exposed to the 6th and 7th grade GLCEs and 5th grade has only been exposed to the 3rd and 4th grade because the curriculum went into effect in December 2007 (for the 08-09 school year). A refined final draft was released in January 09.
SOCIAL STUDIES • MDE reserves the right to select from the item banks for the GLCEs they prefer to test in any given year for the Pink and Green items. • BLUE ITEMS – items assessed on every test each year • PINK ITEMS – randomly assessed; not necessarily every year • GREEN ITEMS – assessed every year; disbursed through the 7 assessment forms distributed to districts • NOTE: Each assessment (both 6th & 9th Grades) has a significant emphasis on the Historical Thinking & Geography standards.
SOCIAL STUDIES • To view the document which identifies specific elementary & middle school GLCEs to be assessed, go to - Social Studies Curriculum and Assessment Alignment document • Remember 9th grade students have only been exposed to the 7thth and 8th grade GLCEs and 6th grade has only been exposed to the 4th and 5th grade because the curriculum went into effect December 2007 (for the 08-09 school year).
