He never has to clean the tub After he has had a scrub, For whatever mess he makes, A bath is what he never takes. But then, what is a pool to him? Poor pig, he never learns to swim. Focus Skill Making Inferences • Authors do not always tell everything so readers must make inferences to figure out the missing information or ideas. • When you make inferences, you use text clues along with what you already know about the topic. • Making an inference can help you determine what happened or how a character feels in a selection.
