  2. Success Criteria Key Terms I will learn why people adopted Divorce. I can distinguish the changes in women’s lives. I will be able to determine the changing norms and values with divorce. Empty shell marriages – people live together as a married couple but do not love each other. Secularisation– religion is less important in people’s lives than it once was. Serial monogamy – marriage to more than one person, but one at a time.

  4. Patterns of Divorce • 1970 – 25% of all marriage ended in divorce • 1994 – 33% failure rate of marriage; • 150, 000 couples ended their marriage • 1994 onwards - decrease in number of divorces because fewer people are getting married.
