  1. AS History -The French Revolution 1774-1795 The French Revolution in 1789 resulted in the execution of King Louis XVI and his queen Marie-Antoinette. It began a new period in world history and the power of the French Monarchy was changed forever and eventually abolished. Before the revolution, the King had complete control over the laws and government in France. The structure of society was fixed in three separate groups – estates. This worksheet is an introduction to the social problems in France before the revolution and the techniques needed for an AS source exam.

  2. SOURCE A cartoon from 1788 showing the 3 estates. The stone is carved with the names of different taxes paid by the 3rd estate (mostly peasants) 1. What does this image suggest about the role of the 3 estates ? Make two supported inferences (describe detail from the image to support your points) 2. Use the information sheet on the 3 estates and the picture above, and complete a detailed table like the one shown below (draw your own – at least A4) Submission by first lesson in September.
