  4. CHEMS LOOKUPS • Works pretty well most of the time for most users • Internet is running well • Application servers are OK • Oracle database is responding as expected

  5. CHEMS LOOKUPS • County Best Case Scenario • Newer, fast PC with enough memory • Fiber / fast internet connection • Oracle database and app servers are normally OK • Data entry person may be fast but not lightning fast

  6. CHEMS LOOKUPS • When CHEMS is not working at top speed… • Database issue? It has happen but not typical • DOT Internet is fiber, down but never overloaded • Application servers are never saturated (< 10% load) • Typically a county shared Internet connection slows • The result are lockups / kicked-out / Windows errors

  7. Local Tables • Local copy of lookup data copied from the server • Descriptions and default values • Fastest response possible during data entry • Data needed is already in memory on your PC • Eliminates most of the architecture

  12. Local Tables • As of 10/2013 these screens can use ‘local tables’ • CASH_DAILY_SCN • JOURNAL_DAILY_SCN • VOUCHER_DAILY_SCN • EQUIPMENT_DAILY_SCN • SUNDRY_DAILY_SCN • LABOR_DAILY_SCN • LABOR_ADJUST_SCN

  13. Local Tables • Something to remember… • Your local copy can become out of date • Descriptions are re-fetched every time • You ‘F9’ to save, pre and post • Defaults can’t be re-fetched / can be out of date • You can turn off or refresh your local data anytime

  15. SUMMARY • Local tables will provide great data entry performance. • Slower your internet the bigger the benefit. • There is no requirement to use local tables. • Please provide feedback, if positive – • I will add it to Combined & Inventory entry screens.
