  3. Health Promotion Agency • Came into existence 1 July 2012 • Formed by the merger of ALAC + HSC + Health promotion programmes from the MoH

  4. Health Promotion Agency • Our Vision – Inspire New Zealanders to lead health lives • Core programmes – Reducing alcohol-related harm, Tobacco Control, Sun safety, Healthy Eating, Problem Gambling, Immunisation, Rheumatic fever, Mental health, Sexual health, Health-Ed resources

  5. Rheumatic fever prevention programme – the HPA’s role? • Approached by MoH in November 2011, to develop and implement a rheumatic fever health promotion programme, in the high-risk areas. Key messages relating to • the importance of recognising and reporting sore throats early • methods that minimise and avoid the spread of infection • benefits of treating sore throats properly

Stakeholder engagement alongside National Coordination Service Stocktake of rheumatic fever resources Supporting local providers with funding for interim resources Development of resources – English, Te Reo and select Pacific resources Website www.sorethroatsmatter.org.nz Communication tools (inserts, plan, presentation templates, brand logo) Work that has occurred to date?

What next? • Finalise the language resources • Work with the Pacific Advisory group to plan for promotional activities in the Auckland region for the 2013 year • Communication activities (channels, devices) • Work with regional providers / coordinators to plan for 2013 / 14 year – How and were can HPA add value to their work? • Joint planning with National coordination service, MoH • Ongoing partnership with the Heart Foundation • Update website and promote usage • Participation on the Government’s steering group for rheumatic fever prevention (BPS work programme)
