What’s DRO TOOL • DRO_TOOL will let the Federated Database Administrator to: • manage the configuration of a Federated Database • detect and handle failures in the Federated Database as soon as possible • observe statistics for AMS throughput • control and manage fault tolerance in a FDB distributed environment Javier Conde IT/ASD/RD45
DRO_TOOL • Functionality • FDB: create, open, general settings, proprieties • AP: create, delete, set on-line, set off-line • DB: create, delete, move, check quorum • Replica: create, delete, change partition, set weight, verify accessibility • Tools: view schema, dump catalog, check Lock Server, start Lock Server, kill Lock Server, Lock Server monitor, start local AMS, stop local AMS, clean up FDB, list wait, tidy FDB • Statistics: start tests, stop tests, view active test information, visualise a test result • Control: agents status, ping, send agent, move agent, kill agent, start/stop remote AMS, check if AMS/LS servers are running Javier Conde IT/ASD/RD45
DRO TOOL • Improvement • Ported to JDK1.2b4 and JFC Swing package included on it • Added Objectivity/DB 5.0 features • Scalability: search and display only a few databases • Divided in three parts: configuration, control and statistics • Problems using Voyager 2beta2 with JDK 1.2beta4 • New release of Voyager just arrived! Javier Conde IT/ASD/RD45
DRO TOOL • Control • Idea: have more information and control of the hosts involved in a FDB • Use of Java Mobile agents for the communication between servers • Check status of host, Lock Server, AMS server, file size and network Bandwidth • Inform of any failure a.s.a.p. (via popup dialog window or email) • Possibility of solve problems: easy to implement actions activated by some event (automatically start servers) Javier Conde IT/ASD/RD45
DRO TOOL • Statistics • Three differents statistics: insertion, replication and bandwidth • Possibility of run more than one test in parallel • Possibility of run test, even if the application is not running (agents) • For insertion tests, choice of the object size • Visualisation of more than one result for comparations Javier Conde IT/ASD/RD45
