Outcome • Students will be able to recognize the different parts of respiratory system. • Students will be able to determine functions of different parts of respiratory system.
It is composed of: • Nasal cavity • Pharynx • Larynx • Trachea and bronchi • Lungs
Nasal cavity • It is bounded by: • Roof: formed of frontal bone and sphenoid bone • Floor: formed by hard palate • Medial wall: formed by nasal septum • Lateral wall: formed by the maxilla and palatine bone
Pharynx • It is a common pathway for the food and the air
Larynx • It extends from the root of the tongue to the cricoids cartilage • It is formed of : • Cartilages • Muscles • Membranes'
Trachea • It is a vertical tube. • It has cartilaginous rings to keep it patent. It connects the larynx to the lungs. • It divides into two bronchi (right & left). • Each bronchus enters the corresponding lung
Lung • There are two in number (right & left). They are conical in shape. It has an apex, base, medial & lateral surfaces. • Difference between the right and left lungs:
1 1 4 4 Upper lobe Upper lobe 3 2 2 Middle lobe 5 Lower lobe Lower lobe 6 Left lung Right lung . 1. Apex. 2. Oblique fissure. 3. Transverse fissure. 4. Anterior border. 5. Cardiac notch. 6.Lingula.
Possible questions: • By using a table, mention the deference between the right & left lung. • By using a table, mention the deference between the right & left bronchus.
