Unit assessments • Analysis and Evaluation • Detailed study of written and spoken texts. • Listening and Reading assessments. • Creation and Production • Create pieces of writing. • Talking and Writing assessments. • PASS/FAIL assessment by class teacher.
Course assessment • External Examination • Paper I • Reading for Understanding, Analysis and Evaluation (30%) • Paper II: Critical Reading • One Critical Essay (20%) • Scottish Set Texts (20%)
Course assessment • External Examination • Paper I The step up from National 5 is that once you have answered questions on the first passage there is a second passage. At this level, you will be asked to identify similarities and/or differences in the main ideas between Passage I and Passage II. • 1 hour 30 minutes
Course assessment • External Examination • Paper II • Set Scottish texts (comparison question is worth 10 marks at Higher) • One critical essay based on a text studied in class (different genre from set texts) • 1 hour 45 minutes
