  5. Notes on Page 3 of your ISN 3 Types ACTIVE - actions STATE OF BEING/LINKING - is, am, 
are, was, were, be, been... HELPING - can, could, shall, should, 
will, would, have, has, had

  6. Verb - Start It! Hint: Use the back of your verb sheet to collect great verbs! Also, you may add -ed or -ing to any of those verbs. Original sentence: The Greeks fought the war. Revised sentence: Running, the Greeks fought the war. Running toward their opponents, the Greeks fought the 
war. (this is a verb phrase!) Revised sentence: Charging, the Greeks fought the war. Charging forward,the Greeks fought the war Begin a sentence with a verb.*USE COMMAS AFTER A VERB START IT! Comma! Comma!

  7. Verb - Improve it! Hint: Use your verb sheet to collect great verbs! Improve a weak verb with a strong, action verb. Original sentence: The blender broke into thousands of pieces. Revised sentence: The blender shattered into thousands of pieces. Revised sentence: The blender exploded into a thousand pieces.

  8. Tape the half sheet into page 8 of your 
ISN Go through and underline verbs, nouns, and adjectives.

  9. Verb - COMMA RULES 1. ) "START ITS" NEED COMMAS. We 
really call this an introductory phrase or clause. 2.) "REPEAT ITS" NEED COMMAS. We 
really call this a list or a series.

  10. Directions: Take a blank, small, red sheet and tape it into page 6 of your ISN. Make 
sure that the red sheet is slightly agove the 
yellow sheet. Original sentence Start it: Improve it: Repeat it: Write VERBS 
on the very 
bottom of the 
red sheet VERBS

  11. Directions: On the top of your red sheet, write this sentence: Original: The girl sat on a chair. Underneath the sentence, write: Start It: Improve It: Repeat It: Remember to use your ISN and/or red sheet 
to help you make your revised sentences.

  12. Reflection On page 5 of your ISN , please reflect on today's lesson by creating a 4 line poem, each line STARTING with a great verb!
