METRICS • The basic measurement unit of length is the meter. • 1 decimeter = .1 meter • 1 centimeter = .01 meter • 1 millimeter = .001 meter
Page 3 • Always use the same diameter, length, grade, & type of fastener. • Never cross thread a fastener. • Always use manufacture’s torque sequence, & specifications. • Always replace fasteners with stretched or damaged threads.
COMMON SPECIAL TOOLS • Line Wrenches - Flare Nut Wrench • Torque Wrenches - Inch pound • Retaining Ring Pliers - page 6 • Power tools - Impact wrench - Air ratchet
LIFTING TOOLS • Jacksnever use without jack stands. • Drive on lifts - Red and Blue. • Twin Post • Side by Side • Always look up lift points inMitchell-On-Demand
SHOP MANUALS • Mitchell-On-Demand • in computer lab and in east wall of shop. • Tool room • Mitchell • Motors • Chilton • Factory Manuals • Go to the Tool room and get a manual.
MEASURING TOOLS • Micrometers - Inside - Outside • Dial or Vernier Caliper • Dial Indicator • Feeler gauge
ENDPLAY • Measure endplay on the transmission on your bench. • Look in the Mitchell manual you checked out from the tool room for the proper procedure.
