What is important to our Beacon Community of Learners? • Beacon is known as a school who works to integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math to create a strong learning environment for students.
Literacy is a strong focus. We expect: • students to be reading at or above grade level by the end of the year • Kids do their homework every night • Parents support kids by making sure homework is completed and reading 20 minutes daily is done
Hands on experiences are important to our school. • Beacon uses a school garden to give students hands on experiences with science concepts • Beacon parents and teachers partner together to provide our science instructor, Ms. Straight, for k-6 classes. These experiences are in our science lab • Field trips to locations that reinforce key core learning concepts
The Arts is a driving force at our school. • We integrate arts into all areas in the classroom • We are a Beverly Taylor Sorensen art school. This provides instruction to all students from a professional artist, Donna Pence • We receive a RH Burton grant for music • Parents raise money for CDT dance and additional art experiences
Parent Involvement is important to us • Volunteer in the classroom • Volunteer in the garden • Volunteer in the science labs • Financially support fundraisers for art (April 26)and for science (fall) • Join PTA and our school community council
Important People to know: • If you need help (injury, illness, lost, meds, late, early, parent forgot you!) talk to Ms. Maggie and Ms. Irene in the office.

What if my child has adjustment problems and I need help? • You can talk to your teacher • Our counselor, Mr. Jensen, is available Monday, Wednesday • You can talk to Mrs. Louie
What if my child does not speak English? • Students are given an English class for 45 minutes per day. • Testing is used to group students by English proficiency • Ms. Gifford is the teacher
Support Staff make our school run smoothly. • Ms. Keli, cafeteria manager • Mr. Mike, Mr. Russ, our custodians
Do kinders eat at school? • Breakfast: AM and full day, $1, 8:20-8:40 • Lunch: only full day kinder can bring their home lunch or eat school lunch. • Lunch $2 • See Keli to set up accounts
All students have: • PE with Coach Nick • Dance with Children’s Dance Theater (k-3rd) • Music with Mrs. Dale(k-4th) or district music (5th -6th ) • Art: Ms. Pence • Science: Ms. Straight
What is the schedule? • ½ day times: AM 8:45-11:25, M-Th, 8:45-10:50 F, PM 12;45-3:15 M-Th, 11:10-1:15 F • Full day kinder and gr. 1-6: 8:45-3:15, F: 8:45-1:15 • Supervision: (k)8:30-8:45 AM, 8:15-8:45 (gr.1-6) • Aftercare, 3:15-6:00 pm: pm or full day K and gr. 1st-6th, you must sign up at the district office.
Important dates: • New student registration, August 12, 9:00-1:30 • August 14, 15 16 State of Utah incoming Kinder assessments, open house for parents to meet teacher, see classroom, ask questions. Time will be mailed • August 16, class placement mailed for 1st-6th • August 20, open house 2:00pm-3:00 pm, 1st-6th • August 21, school begins all grades
