Glass-Steagall Act • An act to provide for the safer and more effective use of the assets of banks, to regulate interbank control, and to prevent the undue diversion of funds into speculative operations • Separated investment and Commercial banking (repealed 1999) • Established FDIC (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation) • Allowed Federal Reserve to regulate interest rates in savings accounts (repealed 1980) • Prohibited a bank holding company from owning other financial companies (repealed 1999)
