  1. Good Morning! Glue the sheet from yesterday in your journals. Record your thoughts to the following questions on a notecard (check your tub).

  2. Bits and Pieces 1.2 Folding Fraction Strips

  3. Did anyone think of using a strip of paper? How could we have used a strip of paper to help us with yesterday’s problem?

  4. How could we… How could we use a strip of paper to show the statement from yesterday, “The sixth graders have raised $100” is false?

  5. Today we will create fraction strips We will be using these strips to make comparisons over the next few days. It is critical that the strips be folded correctly!!!!! We must fold carefully! Halves Thirds Fourths Fifths Sixths Eighths Ninths Tenths Twelfths

  6. A few questions… What fraction strips, besides halves, can you partition to make twelfths? What fraction strips can be made by partitioning halves strips? How are these related?

  7. A few more questions… Can you measure fourths with a halves strip? If yes, how? What fraction parts could you measure with a fifths strip?

  8. What do the numerator and the denominator of a fraction tell you?

  9. Closing Eleanor said that since ¼ is larger than 1/5, then ¾ is larger than 4/5. Do you agree or disagree with Eleanor? Explain your thinking.
