How ESV couldhelpconservation? • Enhance environmental impact assessment (EIA). • Evidence of economic benefits of conservation. • Support development and spatial planning. • Strengthen the GEP by linking it with environmental degradation consequences. • Develop financial mechanisms and ES markets. • Reduce the financial gap for biodiversity. • Contribute to the achievement of Aichi Targets 1,2,3,11, 19 and 20.
Activities with GIZ/ ValuES • CONANP-GIZ ES valuation project in protected areas 2013-2018 • Mainstream, communicate, build capacity, strengthen management and enhance financial sustainability of PA. • Bottom-up inclusive approach. • Permanent collaboration with ValuES • ESV methodology prioritization • Capacity building in protected areas (GIZ-IES Training) • EIA and ESV Workshop • Workshops with municipal development planners in Oaxaca • Support current and future GEF projects in Mexico
Further planned activities • Develop ES assessment and valuation studies in Mexico‘s protected areas • Mainstream the value of biodiversity into public policy by: • Communicating the values of biodiversity to society. • Integrating ES conservation into local development plans. • Creating ES markets to distribute costs and benefits in a more equitable way. • Implementing financial mechanisms and conservation incentives. • Linking ES with protected area‘s financial sustainability. • Establishing mechanisms with the private sector.
