Power Point Presentations Guidelines • Focus on the message. The main focus is to deliver your message to your audience. Power point is just a tool. • Agenda and Handouts. Let your audience know the topics that you’re going to cover on your presentation. Also, let them know that you will distribute handouts of your presentation. • Logical Flow of Ideas. Identify the purpose of your presentation and the message that you want to deliver. Tell a story; connect your ideas from beginning to end. • Present only the main points. Minimize the text on your slides; a good rule for effective PowerPoint presentations is to put up only your main points and use the screen as a reference. Remember to look at your audience when you are talking and interact with them. • Keep it simple and make it readable. For instance font Times New Roman, Garamond, Goudy, Palatino, etc. • Be Consistent. Use the same colors and fonts throughout. Select graphic images in the same style. Templates go a long way toward helping to maintain consistency. • References: • http://michaelhyatt.com/5-rules-for-more-effective-presentations.html • http://sbinfocanada.about.com/cs/management/qt/powerptpres.htm UCC / DCSIT 2013
