  2. What is an MLE? A Managed Learning Environment (MLE) links together the various information systems and processes in a University or College that contribute to learning and the management of that learning. • 70% of UK Universities are developing MLEs • Many take the form of an Internet Portal • DMU’s MLE • launched to 1st year students in September ’03 • extended to all remaining students in January ’04 • URL = http://mle.dmu.ac.uk

Feedback from users • Users like: • Clear presentation of information • Access to their results earlier than before • Access to their results off-campus • MLE leading to improved data quality • Problems • Some confusion between MLE and VLE • large numbers of users accessing their results led to slow response times

  7. MLE - New Functions (1) Currently being tested: • Single sign on to the Blackboard learning environment • Online student noticeboard for house-sharing • Online versions of the DMU Student Handbook (for Leicester / Bedford / Associate Colleges)

  8. MLE - New Functions (2) Under development: • Announcements targeted to groups of users • Online forms for updating personal information • Online questionnaires and voting • Secure access to financial information • Support for Personal Development Planning
