Advanced Academics • Gifted and Talented Education Services (GATES) • Advanced Placement (AP) • Pre-Advanced Placement (PreAP)
GATES Eligibility • Student Referral • Student assessment - intellectual and academic achievement and checklists. • A committee of 3 people review the data and make academic recommendations (All kindergarteners and 2nd graders are automatically screened.)
Northwest ISD GT Enrollment • 1,651 students – 9.6 % of student population
Elementary GT Staffing • 15 GT Specialists • 13 full-time Specialists • 2 Specialists that are assigned to two campuses
Staff Development GATES • 30-hour GT Training • 6-hour Update Training • Campus led Parent Awareness meetings

Future Plans • January 6 • 6th-10th PreAP teachers will participate in a vertical planning training facilitated by The College Board • Summer: • AP teachers attend an week long AP Institute at a minimum of every three years (at local university) • Summer of 2014 Northwest ISD plans to host a PreAP institute • Exploring options will local universities to assist teachers with Master’s degrees necessary to teach Dual credit classes (DBU, UNT, and UTA)
