Index of Learning Styles: What it is . . . • A self-scoring instrument that assesses preferences on the dimensions of learning: (active-Reflective; Sensing-Intuitive; Visual-Verbal; and Sequential-Global). • Ways to identify the preferred learning style of an individual or group. • Assists faculty in the structuring of course work, assignments and ways of allowing students to demonstrate learning.
Index of Learning Styles: What it’s NOT. . . • A way to determine if someone “belongs” in a certain curriculum or group. • A way to assume someone is or is not “suited” for a particular course or major. • A way to separate certain preferences in ways that ostracizes someone from the group.
LEARNING PREFERENCES • People learn in ways that are on both ends of the dimensions. However, people tend to have “preferences.”
