About the NBSA Extended-Day Learning Opportunities (EDLO) Program • The NSBA Extended-Day Learning Opportunities (EDLO) program is a national initiative to promote school board leadership for high-quality after-school programs for all students • The EDLO program is part of the Education Services Department within State Association Services of NSBA

After-school Programs 101 • Program participation can lead to greater engagement in learning, including improved behavior in school, increased self-efficacy, better work habits, fewer school absences, and greater educational aspirations. • Nine out of ten voters agree that children need some type of organized activity or place for children and teens to go after school every day. • 15.1 million students in Kindergarten through grade 12 are unsupervised after the school day ends. • Children and youth are more likely to be involved in crime, substance abuse, and teenage pregnancy during the after- school hours.
