  1. TAMPING OF TRACK- A FIELD PROBLEM By Anil Choudhary Sr Prof/Track Machine IRICEN

  2. SURVEY OF existing disturbed TRACK Choose Datum Rail (Levelling)and Reference rail (Lining) Plot the level of datum Rail using level instrument and decide the final level and get lift values (Y). For Alignment, first decide the starting and end point of curve i.e ST and TS. For Straight get alignment defect (Fd) using theodelite. For curved track get slew values (Fd) as per ROC calculation keeping above decided ST and TS.

  3. TYPICAL SITUATION FINAL ALIGNMENT 253770 TC 253570 CT Front offset-Fd Ca-80 mm 253000 ST EXISTING ALIGNMENT TS 253500 253840 Lift Value-Y 253200 FINAL LEVEL 253000 1 in 1000 1 in 500 EXISTING LEVEL 253840 The above survey is done in advance. The starting point of curve can be different from the original designed location

  4. DIFFERENT DATAS REQUIRED LINING- 1. Front offset valuei.eFd from references or ROC slew values. This will be applicable for both 3-Point and 4-Point Lining. • 3-Point Lining - • Versine diagram i.eH,Hx,Hy,Hz,Hw which can be obtained from RT-3 manual of Manufacturer. • Radius of curve and Length of transition shall be taken from ROC . B. 4-Point Lining- • Versine correction values(Vm) values from RT-4 manual of manufacturer.

  5. DIFFERENT DATAS REQUIRED LEVELLING • Lift Value (Y)- To be obtained after taking level of track and deciding final level. • Cant (Ca) value to achieved. • K correction in lift value for horizontal curve portion to be obtained NT chapter of manufacturers manual. Radius for the purpose will be of final curve proposed after ROC • X correction for vertical curve to be obtained from NT chapter of Manufacturers manual. R for this to be taken as those decided to be obtained after final plotting of level.

  6. Marking on Sleeper Vm Y Fd Ca H K and X Correction K X The above calculations are done in advance and accordingly written on sleepers.

  7. ACTUAL WORKING • The datum rail and reference rail selected as decided during survey. • The tamping parameters of the machine are adjusted like tamping depth, squeezing pressure, squeezing depth etc. • The starting point should be from where ramping out was done during last day tamping. • Working will commence, and datas as written on sleepers will be fed. • Closing should be in straight track where normally Fd values is very less.
