  1. Embedded Assessment Objective • I will analyze a short story from multiple critical perspectives so I can present my analysis to my classmates in graphic novel format.

Embedded Assessment • Your assignment is either individually or with a partner to analyze one of the following short stories using multiple critical perspectives and to present your analysis as a graphic novel in a visual medium of your choice. • “The Rocking Horse Winner,” p. 1154 • “The Demon Lover,” p. 1230 • “The Rising of the Moon,” handout • “The Lottery,” handout • “The Landlady” handout • “A Cup of Tea,” p. 1126 • “The Duchess and the Jeweller,” p. 1138

Embedded Assessment Due Dates: • BDay and 1st Period: Thursday, May 22, at the end of class. • Last day for partial credit: Tuesday, May 27th • ADay: Friday, May 23, at the end of class. • Last day for partial credit: Wednesday, May 28th You will have time in class to work on the projecton the following dates: • B Day: May 14, 16, 20, and 22. • A Day: May 15, 19, 21, and 23.

  4. Embedded Assessment Today, you will: • Choose your short story. • Develop a summary of your story. Your summary should be at least 15 sentences and include: • The main points of the story, • The theme, and • The critical perspectives that apply to your story. • Use the chart on the front of your handout to consider how each critical perspective might apply to your story. • Use the chart on the back of your handout to choose the critical perspectives you will apply and to create an in-depth analysis of how these perspectives apply to your story.

  5. Embedded Assessment Today, you will: • Determine scenes, actions, characters, props, and/or dialogue that you want to depict in your graphic representation of the story. • Determine how you will incorporate the criticalperspectives into the graphic representation of your story. • Think about which medium (PowerPoint, Photo Story, Story Board, Poster) you will use. • Begin to create your graphic “novel” of your story. • Remember that your graphic novel should include at least 15 panels that present your story.

  6. Embedded Assessment Websites for creating comic strips: • Bitstrips.com • Google “bitstrips.” • Select “make a comic strip.” • You will need to create an account. • http://www.makebeliefscomix.com • This website will only generate 3 panel strips, but you could use it to create multiple strips to come up with your 15 frames.
