The Foundation Programme aims to: • Develop clinical knowledge, skills and attitudes with an emphasis on management of the acutely ill patient • Provide a broader based education for newly qualified doctors • Demonstrate competence through workplace assessments • Explore a range of career opportunities in different settings

  4. Key outcomes: 1. Doctors with solid skills in acute medicine: recognising and treating acutely ill patients 2. Doctors with developed generic professional skills 3. Doctors with experience in a range of specialities 4. Doctors who have undergone and succeeded in competency-based assessment

Supervision • Educational Offer regular and planned reviews through educational appraisal Ensure trainees maintain appropriate assessment records Contact TPD if concerned about trainees’ level of performance • Clinical Ensure that trainees only perform tasks without direct supervision when supervisor is satisfied they are competent to do so. Teach, provide feedback and undertake competence assessment of foundation trainees
