External exams: Module 1 • Focus on reading • Worth 30% of total mark/ grade • Students have to read 2 media texts and answer 4 questions, which have different levels of difficulty
External exams: Module 2 • Focus on writing • Worth 30% of total mark/ grade • Students have to write 2 non-fiction texts • Spelling, punctuation and sentence organisation are worth 1/3 of the total marks available on this paper
How to help your child • Keep an eye on the Programme of Study for the year then you know what your child is studying • Ensure that your child completes English homework on time and to the highest standard he or she can • Talk to your child about what they are studying in English and ask if you can support and/ or help them • When we are focusing on exam preparation in school, use the shared reading and writing ideas to develop skills from lessons
Core Curriculum Maths • Linear paper for all • Staff will be working with individual groups for entry appropriate entry porthole • June 2014, November 2014 and / or June 2015 • Higher and Foundation level entry

Attendance leads to success! Do you know the level of your child’s attendance? What does good attendance mean?
90% Attendance? 1 School year at 90% attendance = 4 whole weeks of lessons missed! 90% attendance over 5 school years = half a school year missed!! Research suggests that 17school days missed a year = 1 GCSE grade drop (DfE) The greater the attendance the greater the achievement.
Holidays • New government guidelines • No authorisation will be given for holidays taken during term time.
Access to progress through PAW... • Accompanying the termly reports is our online PAW (Parent Access Window) system. • Allows parents to have ‘live’ access to attendance, behaviour and achievement information, assessment. • Messages from the academy can be viewed.
Rewards • Merits • Certificates • Rewards Trip Day • Form Raffle: • Half termly • Individual forms • 1 entry for each demerit free week • 1 prize per form (voucher/credit towards reward trip)
Sanctions • Uniform: • Zero tolerance • 15 min lunchtime detention • Failure to attend lunchtime = 40 min after school ideally the same night • Behaviour Flow Chart:
