Subject Selection for Diploma - timeline • Staff speak with students in classes about DP offering • until Mon 11 April • Parents speak with children • Email staff with questions, as required • Students supported to make selections by LA’s • 12-14 April
Year 11 Visual Arts 4 main units of study – broad thematic units, students have a choice of art materials and techniques Identity (Health & Social Education) - personal identity, cultural identity, migrations, the experience of migrants/ third-culture kids and globalization Site Specific Art(Environment) – study of contemporary artists who create artworks for specific sites; the relationship between an artwork and the environment in which is it created and exhibited Stories (Human Ingenuity) - How do artists tell stories? How does art inform us of the world around us? Students will develop an appropriate narrative, style and technique to either tell one of their own stories or the story of someone else Self Directed Community Project (Community & Service) - responsible citizenship and international mindedness, developing independent inquiry skills.
Year 11 Visual Arts In preparation for DP Visual Arts: students are encouraged to be more self-directed and independent in both their research work and exploring their own ideas increased class time - concepts and techniques explored at an increasing level of depth class critiques and opportunities (in class presentations, podcasts, etc) for students to develop confidence to speak about their work exposure to the work of others – field trips, artists research tasks, visiting artists, visits to student exhibitions of DP work, connections with other schools
Year 11 Music • The essence of Music in Year 11 is that the students have to enjoy making music and commenting and analysing what they hear. • Music is made through composition using the notation software Sibelius and through performance as a soloist and member of an ensemble.

Year 11 Drama A continuation of MYP Drama Preparation for DP Theatre Arts
Theatre in the Making • You will devise and plan a range of drama performances. • You will learn more about: • the role of the actor, designer and director • elements of production and how they provide technical support in a theatre performance.
Theatre in Performance • You will work as a member of a production team to create devised and scripted performances for an audience.
Independent Project • You will pursue an interest, enquiry or passion in theatre. • This will be inspired by your studies during the course and presented in a manner chosen by you.
Theatre in the World • You will explore a range of theatre traditions and cultural practices from around the world and from different historical periods.
Assessment • You will continue to be assessed using the following assessment criteria: A Knowledge and Understanding B Application C Reflection and Evaluation D Personal Engagement
The Developmental Workbook • You will continue to document your progress in your Developmental Workbook. • You will be expected to use it to record your own creative process from initial brainstorming and planning, through rehearsals to performance. • It is used to assess all four Arts criteria.

History Examining continuity and change that has shaped the world in which we live Fields of inquiry: • perspectives, mindsets, human • experience • conflict, war, revolution • identity, communities • repression, oppression, injustice.
The allocation of scarce resources through market forces. • Macroeconomic concepts - global trade, unemployment, inflation, economic growth and sustainable development. • Create economic models, analyse and compare data, evaluate government policies.
Technology All students take technology courses until end of MYP All technology courses delivered through focused tasks and design and make projects All projects follow the same ‘design cycle’ model; students investigate a problem, generate ideas, plan, create and evaluate a solution In year 11 students will take two of the following three units; a food unit, a resistant materials/CAD unit, a systems/IT unit
