CLASSROOM PROCEDURES Mrs. Sommers’ Classroom (5WS) Greenland Central School
WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? • Procedures are the ways we do things. To do things correctly, we have to follow procedures such as: To place a phone call, we need to enter numbers in the right order. To mail a letter, we need to write down the correct address and zip code. • So, to be successful in learning, we need to follow some simple procedures.
ENTERING THE CLASSROOM: • Please enter quietly. • Hang up your coat and backpack. • Read Morning Message. • Review the schedule.
ENTERING THE CLASSROOM: • Complete “Start Up” Checklist. • Place notes from home on dog. • Place last night’s homework in bins on top of long counter. • Begin morning work. Notes from home
THE CLASSROOM MANAGER: *Manager’s Chair
RIGHT AFTER START UP: • Put completed work in the “Morning Work” basket. Unfinished work may be completed during Snack/Recess. • Wait quietly for the next direction.
DURING INSTRUCTION: • Listen to the teacher with your full attention. • No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions can be asked later.
WHILE YOU ARE WORKING: • Make sure you read or listen to directions and that you understand them. • If you are unsure, ask for help from students sitting near you. If they also don’t understand, ask the teacher to explain. • If you are asked for help, be polite, kind, and offer your best without giving away the answer. • Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. • Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.
IF THE TEACHER RAISES HER HANDorRINGS THE BELL: • Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. (Freeze!) • Face the teacher and wait silently. • Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has raised her hand. • No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.
AFTER YOU ARE DONE: Put your name on your paper! Check your work and the directions once more to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Read quietly or work on unfinished assignments. Students are not allowed to sit and do nothing. You must be working until the end of class.
DISMISSAL: Clean your work area. Take all garbage to the trash can. Pick up underneath/around your desk. Wait for the teacher to dismiss you. The bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and line up as directed.
DISMISSAL: If it is the end of the day, complete “Shut Down” List and stack your chair on your desk.
HOMEWORK PROCEDURE: You will be given homework M-Th, posted on front board Hand in homework each morning in designated bins and check off your name Missing work – 3 Strike Rule Plan to Do Better and Parent Signature Incomplete work/Papers without a name Consequences/Homework Responsibility Card
WHEN YOU ARE LATE: Enter quietly Place tardy note on our desk. Have a seat and quietly take out your materials.
WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT: Get the assignments from your classmate and the worksheets from the mail box. Do the work at home. If you missed a test because of your excused absence, a time will be arranged to make up the test.
SCHOOL-WIDE RULES: Arrive on time NO vulgar language, insults, threats, or rude comments or gestures NO spitting NO walkmans, discmans, pagers, cell phones, electronic games/devices Take hats & sunglasses off in building
SCHOOL-WIDE RULES: Beverages brought to school must be in sealed containers and consumed during recess or lunch. Students are expected to deliver all notices provided to them for home delivery to their parents/guardians.
CLASSROOM RULE: The Golden Rule: Treat others the way you would want to be treated.

FOLLOWING RULES WILL RESULT IN: A pleasant and orderly classroom atmosphere where we all feel safe to take risks and learn.
NOTFOLLOWING RULES will result in: Warning Warning #2 Warning #3 = “Plan to Do Better” with Parent Signature next day . After Three “PTDB”s, parent conference. Next Step: Referral to Mr. Smith.
EXTREME BEHAVIOR: Any student who- uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes the property of the teachers and other students), or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher) will be sent to the officeIMMEDIATELY.
CLASSROOM DISCUSSIONS: PLEASE participate. Everyone has something important to say. We want to hear what you have to say. If your question is off the topic, write it down and ask later.

GRADING: Rubrics 10 Point Scale- 90 -100 A 80 – 89 B 70 – 79 C 60 – 69 D Check System (4)
PASSES: Always ask permission to leave the room. Passes will only be given for restroom. Do not ask for permission while instruction is going on. Complete sign-out log, take pass hanging in back of room, and then quietly go to restroom.
HALLWAY BEHAVIOR: Single file No talking Hands to yourself
SCHOOL-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENTS: No talking is allowed during announcements.
GROUP WORK PROCEDURES: Youare responsible for your own work and behavior. Each student must contribute to the group. You must ask each Support Buddy for help if you have a question (Ask 3 before me). You must be willing to help any Support Buddy who asks for help.
NUTRITION: Start your head - Eat breakfast every day! Bring a healthy snack daily! Eat a nourishing lunch for lasting brain power!
ABOUT FOOD ALLERGIES: Some kids are severely allergic to certain foods. Sometimes, if they eat, touch, or breathe a tiny amount of the food they’re allergic to, they can become very ill . . . even die! That’s why . . .
FOOD-ALLERGIC KIDS NEED ALL OF US TO HELP KEEP THEM SAFE! • Here are some of the ways YOU can help: • Never take food allergies lightly. • Don’t share your food with food-allergic • friends. • 3. Wash hands after eating. • 4. Ask what your friends are allergic to and • help them avoid it.
SYMPTOMS • If an allergic schoolmate becomes ill, get help immediately! • Here are some symptoms of an allergic reaction: • Vomiting • Swelling of the face and lips • Difficulty breathing • Coughing, sneezing, and watery eyes • Skin that’s bumpy, red, and itchy • If an allergic schoolmate is showing these signs, inform the teacher or person in charge immediately. Your quickness can save a life!
