Who are we? • A traditional campus University in south-west London • 8,000 undergraduates and 2,000 postgraduates from over 140 countries. • Tight-knit collegiate experience, with students encouraged to participate in shaping the direction of their university. • So what they say really matters!
PTES at Roehampton • This is our third year of operating PTES • Process managed by Planning Office working closely with • Academic Engagement Unit • Academics • In 2012 20% response rate • In 2013 30% (427/1422 ) • Currently at 11%
Reporting and Analysis – Approach in 2012 • Tried to use as much of HEA’s reports as possible as primary analysis • Because • High quality analysis • Efficient • Outcome • Worked okay at a high level but needed to do own analysis to get department and programme level information . • Concluded we needed to concentrate on own manipulation in 2013, supported by HEA high quality analytics and not the other way round
Reporting and Analysis – Approach in 2013 • Export data from BOS and use a mixture of Access, Excel and Tableau ( 2 desktop licences) to manipulate and produce analyses and reports • Use HEA analytics to support this e.g. graphs included in key finding reports
Key findings report brings together most of the analytics produced and includes:-
Summary of institutional responses by quality area compared to the sector e.g. • highlighting where we diverge most from the sector and also what actions if any are being taken
Summary of responses by department and theme • highlighting where departments diverge most with sector and other departments, comparing with sector average and top quartile
Dissemination • Key findings report to Senior Executive, Head of Academic Enhancement, Heads of Departments plus posted on Planning website • Programme level reports to programme leaders and Heads of Departments • Anonymised free text comments to HoDs to decide how to disseminate
What next for Reporting • PTES results will be tailored to be used as a formal part of programme annual review • Key performance indicators are being developed • Hope to be able to benchmark against London Peers • Possible use of BI tools to share data
