Makes recommendations to increase governmental efficiencies • County of Orange • Regional services that promote the health welfare and regional needs of residents • City of Anaheim • Provides municipal services such as police, fire, sanitation, streets, parks and others.
Why Anaheim? • Municipal services is our job and what we do best • We provide a variety of services to your neighbors in Anaheim • You deserve to have an equal level of service • Since Anaheim surrounds the island on 3 sides, it is the logical entity to provide services
Government Representation • Anaheim has a directly elected City Council • One Mayor • Four Council Members • Additional leaders you can turn to for assistance with community issues • Opportunities to meet and discuss issues with City Council • Evening Council meetings • Neighborhood Community Meetings
Police Service • Anaheim Police Department would serve the island area • Focus on problem solving, community policing philosophy and strategies • Working to prevent crime by involving the community and others • Bringing more resources to the area: • CPT, PAL, Motors, Neighborhood Improvement Program, Gang Detectives, and other specialized units.
Fire Service • Anaheim Fire Department currently provides fire protection service to island residents through a contract with the County • Eligible to join the Paramedic Subscription Program • Enjoy the same access and benefits of service
Community Preservation • Works to protect the health and safety of residents • Maintain effective working relationships with the Community • Preserving the Community by • Proactive Graffiti Abatement & Wall Beautification programs • Responding to Citizen Requests for Service
Community Services • Non-resident fees would no longer apply for services • Savings on golf, classes, park and facility rentals • Access to Anaheim Public Libraries • New West Anaheim Police Sub-Station and Youth Center (2006) • Renovated Haskett Branch Library (2006) • New Bookmobile (2006)
Anaheim Public Utilities • Anaheim Public Utilities is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing high quality service and low rates for Anaheim customers • Savings of 11% on water service
Services • Trash service would be provided by Anaheim Disposal with a small savings for regular and small barrels • Other services like street sweeping and graffiti removal will increase in frequency and match the level of service provided to neighbors • Service providers such as Gas, Cable, Electric and Sewers would remain the same
Property Tax Split • Property taxes are fixed at a constant rate set by the State in accordance with Prop. 13 • The City and County have agreed to share a specific percentage of the property tax or “property tax split” Before Annexation After Annexation
