Secretary of Defense Gates Memorandum 26 June 2008 • Caring for Our Wounded Personnel and Their Families: • “I request the development of a tailored plan to provide R&D investments that advance state of the art solutions for world class medical care with an emphasis on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, Prosthetics, Restoration Sight Eye Care, and other conditions directly relevant to the injuries our soldiers are currently receiving on the battlefield.”
The Story • MG James K. Gilman and/or Leslie Raulin (or their staff) knew how to do essentially a knowledge model (ontology) to describe the multiple dimensions of their work. • They captured that in slides 5 and 17 and then provided specific examples (instances) in slides 6-15 and slides 18-24, respectively. • This forms the basis for a knowledge-centric information system where the knowledge model (ontology) is the interface and the examples (instances) are the knowledgebase the interface links to.
The Workflow Process • Capture the content of those two slides into a spreadsheet for use in a knowledgebase dashboard and knowledge-centric information system (done). • Obtain the 331 studies referred to for the knowledge-centric information system pilot (requested). • Use readily-available examples of TBI content to build a dashboard knowledgebase pilot (done-see next two slides). • Design the dashboard and system so it will work on Mobile Devices (see last slides). • All the content (knowledge model and knowledgebase) is then available for processing in the Binary Group’s semantic analytics tools (in process).
