Curriculum English: Reading, Writing, Grammar, Speaking and Listening Myths and Legends Reports Shape Poetry
Curriculum Maths: Number Statistics Geometry Measurement Investigation and Problem Solving
Curriculum Science: Materials Magnets and Forces
Curriculum Topic – Prehistoric Britain Art – Cave Paintings DT – Designing Tools Computing – Creating, using and storing digital information RE – Signs and Symbols Music - Pitch PE – Football / Tennis
Timetable • Mornings - Phonics, English, Maths, Guided Reading. • Afternoon – Foundation Subjects. • Show and Tell – Tuesday and Thursday. • PE – Monday and Tuesday. • Library – Tuesday. • Golden Time – Friday.
Homework Issued each Friday and should be returned the following Wednesday. Maths-based activity reflecting work carried out during the week. Spellings. Occasional topic-based work.
Reading • Opportunity to change library books weekly (Tuesday). • Daily reading time. • Reading to an adult. • Reading books changed throughout the week. • Weekly guided reading sessions. • Reading Tree.
How you can help your child • Check homework books on a weekly basis. • Read with your child as often as you can. • Practise spellings. • Times tables.
Behaviour • High expectations within class. • Merits awarded to reinforce good behaviour / positive attitude / hard work. • Star of the week award. • Class rewards. • Individual certificates. • Sanctions: loss of play time.
Assessment • Formal Assessment each term culminating in SATS at end of year (Y2). In 2015 these will be based on the ‘old’ curriculum. • Ongoing assessment through marking, testing, talking to and feedback from children.
