Research, Reflection, Sites • Research: • In a survey of Australian schools (GatehouseProject), 4.5% of students were found victim to exclusion • Exclusion is a form of bullying, though it is often not considered one • Most bullying in secondary school (high school) happens in the school yard (26%), in the classroom (17%) and walking home from school (16%) • Exclusion falls under the category of social exclusion bullying or emotional bullying. Also in this category are things such as spreading rumors, About the Poster/Reflection: People- All of the people taken off of flickr.com had their legs cut off at around the knees. I used the paint tool to make the shape and then used the stamp tool to create the proper texture to add on the legs. I used this technique mainly for people with pants but also for one of the bare legged girls. For most of the bare legged girls however I took legs from another picture (titled “legs” in my folder) and pasted the legs on making the necessary colour changes and adjustments. To cut the people out of the picture I used both magnetic lasso and magic wand depending on the background. I also copied shoes onto most of the people as they did not have legs and therefore did not have shoes. • I used the gradient tool to make it dark in the corner then slowly become lighter. This shows the sadness or darkness that the girl on the moon is in. The people on the earth are lighter and that shows the happiness. • The idea of the earth and the moon is to show how far away and lonely the victim feels. She is all the way out on the moon, where as everyone else (the cliques) are on the earth together. • The shadow of the girl on the moon is a flipped and blackened version of the actual picture. The opacity was reduced and the skew, distort and warp tools were used so that it shaped more to the moon. • The background pictures were put in black and white so that the focus was still on the top image. By making it black and white it also makes sure the girl on the moon doesn’t get drowned out. The LOSER is in red to really make it stand out. 35. ATHLETES UNDER PRESSURE is a topic that is closely connected to me. I am a competitive gymnast myself and I know what it feels like to have pressure put on me. That's why I chose this topic. I placed the elements of the poster in dynamic thirds because I thought it would emphasize 'the pressure weighing down' most effectively. A great source of pressure for all teenagers comes from their parents, so I thought this poster could bring awareness of that as well. The main figure of the poster is a gymnast, but she is 'broken' because she can't handle the pressure. She is surrounded by darkness to, again, show that she has a lot of pressure on her. The parent and the coach are the sources of pressure for the athlete. The red lines on them actually say 'pressure' to recognize the fact that they are the pressure. They are standing on the text because it really emphasizes 'pressure weighing down'. The quote, "Win or else I'll withhold love and approval" is meant to said by a parent and mean words of pressure to the athlete. The message of the poster is that even though others can put pressure on you, its up to you whether you use it in a constructive manner or not.
