“Bill Back” • Legislators sign on tobe supporters of the legislation
“Introduced” • Legislation is filedand posted on theOregon LegislativeInformation System(OLIS) • First reading • Assignment to Committee(s)by House Speaker orSenate President
Types of Legislation • “Bill” • “Senate Bill 229” or “SB 229” • “House Bill 2571” or “HB 2571” • Creates, amends, or repeals state law • Appropriates money, prescribes fees • “Joint Resolution” • “Senate Joint Resolution 21” or “SJR 21” • “House Joint Resolution 32” or “HJR 32” • Referring Constitutional amendments • Creating interim committees • Approving agency action

What if one chamber doesn’t agree? • Example: • The House amends SB 29, a bill previously passed by the Senate, but the Senate fails to concur in the House amendments and repass the bill • What then? • Bill might die • Maybe a “conference committee”
If both chambers pass the same bill • The bill becomes “Enrolled” • Example: • “Enrolled Senate Bill 229” • This does not mean theGovernor has signed it yet • It merely means it’sheading to her desk
