Talofa lava Kia Ora and Greetings to you all. • My name is Sonya and I am a teacher from Newmarket Primary School in Auckland New Zealand.
Configurator • Apple configurator is a programme that you download, set up and use from your computer. • It allows you to quickly configure large numbers of iOS devices with the settings, apps, and data you specify for your students and teachers. • Settings can include age appropriate settings for primary aged children.
Prepare • Prepare for a device by creating settings, adding apps both paid and free, and data. • Create a master template for the rest of the devices.
2)Supervise • Add the devices and mirror the master device over a larger number. • Supervision is ideal in school settings when many chn could be using the same device.
3) Assign • I am still playing with this part and can see its growing importance when we configure teachers devices. • I think it will also be useful when you want the devices to have the same app for a project- eg: imovie
Volume Purchase Pricing • The Volume Purchase Program allows educational institutions to purchase iOS apps and ebooks in volume and distribute them to students, teachers and administrators. • But I think I have struck a conflict between configurator and the VPP codes.
Apple TV • Student Wifi, the televisions have been configured to the teachers Wifi, • WTN- I think I can add student to the apple TVs – however my first couple attempts have been unsuccessful.
Equipment Required • Strong wifi (Snupped) • Dollars with tech support and Professional development
Issues • The legalities when working with primary aged children using the internet as a tool. • Just ensuring that as a school we are legal in what we do with our children. • The apps we provide are targeted at their ages.
implementation • At Newmarket we are trialing iPads with our 5 and 6 year old children. • Doing this because our chn are already exposed to touch screen technology
Staff resourcing • All teachers have an iPhone and or and ipad • We have run a professional day with staff on apps they can use.
Consumers • It has been one term with the ipads in the trial class and inistially, both children and teachers have been consumers of apps. • Just over the past fortnight, there has been a shift and children and teachers are beginning to create.
Creating • In Newmarket School our teachers and children have been creating new ways of sharing and using QR codes to share secret URLs. • Our teachers have experimented with our online spaces to ensure that they are secure for our children yet learning can be shared with families.
5Th wall • The impact of our children’s learning is the opening of our 5th wall in a safe way to enhance the learning process and o strengthen home school partnership.
Teacher Spaces • The movement to online spaces for our teachers is enhancing the quality of teaching because it is opening up dialogue about our pedagogy. • VLN and twitter is beginning to have a greater part of our school.
Impact on pedagogy • The impact on our teaching is pushing us to question our values, is encouraging us to sharing our learning and to ensure mentoring others. • Opening the dialogue about practise
Taonga • Children value family more than iPads.
