Letters • The standard parts of a business letter are the, • Dateline, • Letter address, • Salutation • Body • Complimentary close • Signature block • Enclosure notation, • Copy notation
Memos • Are informal messages sent to persons within an organization. • A memo is quick, easy way to communicate with a colleague or a supervisor in your own department, in another department, or in another company office.
E-mails • More and more companies are using e-mail • A computerized communication system for sending and receiving memos and other messages. • They are formatted the same as and memo.
Reports • The two styles of reports are formal and informal. • The purposes of reports are to provide information and to analyze. • There are seven steps in planning an informal report. • Identify the problem • Decide on areas to investigate • Determine the scope • Plan the research • Develop a preliminary outline • Collect the data • Analyze the data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
Sensitive Language • Make sure you use politically correct terminology • Example: DO NOT say salesmen BUT Rather say salesperson • Be sensitive to gender, race, religion, physically challenged, and sexual orientation.
Proofread • Proofread business documents to ensure that they are: • Clear • Concise • Complete • Consistent • Courteous
