ITV and Video Services Providing ITV Classroom support, Photo and Video Services Joe Nechanicky
ITV (Interactive Television) • Purpose of Interactive Television • To provide access and distribute courses originating from MSU to off campus students through out the state of Minnesota • To Supplement and support students using other forms of distant learning opportunities, such as on line learning • Two primary ITV rooms AH 322 and TR E224 H.323 (IP) equipped • Current classes on ITV – MODL 462/562 MODL 463/563, AVIA 333, REHB 625 ,ENG 686 • ITV / World Wide Video Conference Services • Provide scheduling of ITV class time, facilities at MSU • Establish video connections and work out room scheduling to other institutions • Provide specialized instruction and additional technology for instructors • H.323 Video conference and Net meeting scheduling, connection assistance • Satellite downlink scheduling and program implementation for seminars and continuing education programs

Video Production Lab • Purpose: To instruct and assist faculty in the use of digital video production hardware and software • A sample of video programs available: • iMovie (Mac) • Movie Maker (PC) • Pinnacle Studio 9 • Camtasia • Visual Presenter • Snag it • New programs installed periodically and current programs are being constantly evaluated for proper operation, performance and application
Instruction and Services This support function enhances and increases visibility of Minnesota State Mankato’s strong academic and student environment • Instruction : • Digital Video production techniques (camera, composition, lighting sound ) • Digital Video editing techniques (use of computers for video editing including disposition of files) • Analog to digital audio processing ( instruction on various file generation methods for audio processing • Video Support : • Assist faculty in the development of video for classroom and on line class presentations • Develop campus wide video projects such as MSUM’s convocation video, Promise video, special events, and instructional and recruitment videos. • Assist faculty with video projects in the video production lab • DVD authoring and DVD duplication • VHS to DVD conversions • Digital still shot camera work for various video and photographic applications • Advisement on purchases of video equipment for faculty for class room applications (cameras, editing software, computer specifications etc)

Ongoing Classroom Support • Classrooms require a high level of support and maintenance. • Team of 4-5 student assistants. • Bi-weekly room checks • Our goal is to respond to a problem in a classroom within minutes of a call. • Help departments with non-standard equipment trouble shoot any problems they may have. • Offer training on how to use the equipment and incorporate it into the classroom.
Upcoming Projects • Remodel of Trafton Center 121. • Specialized classrooms for different departments. (Biology) • Working closely with facilities on the new Trafton Building and Remodel and the new dorm building. • Continuing our recycling phase.
Recycling Phase • We are currently on a 5 year recycling plan. • 33 rooms will be upgraded this summer. • They will receive a newer and brighter projector. • They will get new Crestron Touch panels. • They will be added to our E-control system.
Moving Forward: Where are we going? • Installing our own equipment. • Create our own programming. • Continue adding classrooms to our E-Control system. • Work more closely with different departments to meet their growing technological needs.
