  1. Integrated Natural Ventilation Design One of the main tasks was to identify the parameters that have the largest influence on the performance of natural ventilation. Integrated Design Parametric Study Guidelines for integrated natural ventilation Guidelines for the design were made within the work package. The guidelines were established by using two products of the work package (below). The NatVent program A computer simulation tool, calculating air flow rates and indoor temperature, was created. Parametric study Statistical analysis of a large number of simulations using the NatVent program was made Guidelines GUIDE- LINES More... Back to “WP3” NatVent

  2. ParametricStudy Simulations were made for a cell-type office building, where different parameters, e.g. Thermal mass, window area, ventilation strategy, were altered. Over-heating and poor ventilation rates were the key issues for the study. Ventilation Strategy Climate Number of storeys Air leakage Internal heat loads Thermal mass Night ventilation Fenestration Type of windowsVent size Solar shading Windows open Thermal insulation level Altogether five different ventilation strategies were studied. For each strategy twelve parameters were altered and the effect of the change was studied. NatVent

  3. Practical Guidelines for Integrated Natural Ventilation Results from the statistical analysis of the simulations show how to improve natural ventilation: • High buildings gives better stack effect • Airtight buildings (Build tight - Ventilate right!) • Well insulated envelopes • High thermal mass • Large area of (adjustable) facade vents • Limited internal heat loads • Providing for night ventilation • Limited solar loads by limited window area and/or solar shading devices • Providing for user-controlled window airing NatVent
