Today’s Objective • YOU will be able to describe how organisms compete within an ecosystem.
Competition: • The struggle among organisms for limited resources in an area.
Population Density: • A measure of a population’s size in relation to the size of the area in which the population lives.
Limiting Factors: • A factor that causes population growth to decrease.
When looking at competition in an ecosystem, limiting factors can make a huge difference. In the next few slides, we are going to look at some of those factors.
Deforestation: • To cut down and clear away the trees and forests. • This includes over-fishing and over-hunting
Predation: • The capturing of prey as a means of maintaining life.
Natural Disasters: • Hurricane, tornado, flood, severe drought • Equally devastating to populations regardless of size
Scale of Understanding • Using your scale of understanding, please point the number showing your level of understanding answering the following question: • *How well can you describe how organisms compete within an ecosystem*
