DHB Planning Workshop Overview • Context – a journey • 2011/12 results • Our focus in 2012/13 • New audit opinion • Challenges and pitfalls • Next steps
DHB Planning Workshop Context - a journey • Early focus on SOIs – significant improvement in grades since 2008/09 • For 2011/12 a greater focus on the annual report • June 2012 published District health boards: Quality annual reports – available at www.oag.govt.nz
DHB Plannhg Workshop District health boards: Quality annual reports
DHB Planning Workshop Results (so far) for 2011/12 • The first ‘Very Good’ in the sector, with another very close • Useful exemplars – Canterbury and Hawke’s Bay
DHB Planning Workshop Our focus in 2012/13 • Still need to improve the information in annual reports - • Our ESCO grades will be based on 2012/13 reporting (SSP), and systems and controls • SOIs can still be reviewed but our assessment won’t contribute to the grade
DHB Planning Workshop New audit opinion • That non-financial performance information in the annual report fairly reflects the DHB’s service performance and outcomes for the year • This means auditors will focus more on: • the underlying systems and controls that produce that information
DHB Planning Workshop Challenges and pitfalls? • How to audit in the most efficient way • Health target systems, definitions, information flows • Ministry QA arrangements • DHB QA arrangements • Robustness of controls • Patient Administration System • Reliance on data from third parties
DHB Planning Workshop Next steps • Auditor training in February 2013 • Engage (early) with your auditors • How can we best engage with you as a group?
