  1. MUSIC MAGAZINE PLANNING SHEET WHAT GENRE/S WILL YOUR MUSIC MAGAZINE COVER? My music magazine will cover R&B/Urban music. WHO IS THE TARGET MARKET? HOW OLD ARE THEY? WHERE DO THEY LIVE? WHAT ARE THERE INTERESTS? My target market for my magazine are young people preferably around the age 18-25. They live in London and there interests are R&B music, new news in the R&B genre, new/popular artists, new/popular music, competitions, popular events and fashion. WHAT IS THE NAME OF YOUR MAGAINE AND WHY? CONNOTATIONS? The name of my magazine is going to be Colossal. I’ve decided to name it this because it represents the fact that R&B is such a broad genre and you can have many types of R& for example R&B Hip Hop or R&B Pop etc. In addition it also explains to the target audience that its one of the biggest/popular magazines in London. It also shows the target audience because the magazine is big it has the latest news & highlights on the R&B genre. WHAT WILL YOUR MASTHEAD LOOK LIKE? DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR FONTS ? I would preferably want my masthead to take up the top of the magazine front cover because that way it’ll closely relate to the name. I would want it to simply be bold and black because this will make it stand out and with a name like colossal you’ll want to notice it straight away, I want it to be simple yet effective. Regarding a font, I would chose something like Impact as it says exactly what it has and I'll be guaranteed my magazine will be noticed. WHAT WILL BE THE FOCAL IMAGE FOR YOUR FRONT COVER AND WHY? The focal image for my front cover will be the featured artist. I would rather this than the masthead because the featured artist is likely to attract customers to the magazine, it should be the most influential feature on the magazine whereas the masthead should be the second. WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE REQUIRED ? GIVE DETAILS OF SHOT TYPE, ANGLE AND COMPOSITION. Preferably I would like to have a dogs eye view long shot. So the upper body of the feature artist will be bigger and from the waist down will become more narrow and small as though they’re over powering the shot so the camera is almost underneath them.

  2. WHAT MISE EN SCENE WILL BE REQUIRED? LOCATION? CLOTHING? MAKE UP? LIGHTING? USE OF COLOUR?Due to the double page spread article I intend to do I would prefer if the location was in the street, possibly with a tower block of luxury apartments slightly showing in the background. Again relating with the article I intend to do I will make the clothing slightly smart/casual not forgetting that the genre I’m focusing on is R&B so certain public perceptions may be included for example the way artists in the genre dress and the materialistic things they may have for example money and expensive jewellery. Due to the shot I’m going to take the lighting is not going to be as light so I may have to edit this slightly as the genre is not situated with gloom or sadness. WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SELL LINES? HOW WILL YOU ENTICE YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE? Because the double page spread I intend to do will look fairly negative on the genre I think my sell lines should be more positive so the genre doesn’t loose its popularity or mark in the music industry. For example I’ll include sell lines such as ‘Take a look at who’s new in the game’ so the target audience know that the genre is expanding and there’s more new R&B material to look out for also sell lines such as ‘The top 10 R&B hits in the charts’ so the target audience may explore more artists in the R&B genre and possibly things like ‘Win tickets to see (artists name) in concert’ so the target audience know that the artists may have possibly released a mix tape or album to influence them to buy it also to allow them to see one of the more popular faces in the R&B genre in the flesh. WHAT IS THE FOCUS OF YOUR DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD?The focus of my double page spread will be an interview. I’ve decided to do this rather than a feature or review because I want the target audience to be able to know the real side of the artist and not judge based on the other things being said about them in different types of media. I want the target audience to be able to feel as though they know the artist more and can understand or possibly relate to some of their views and opinions also so they can learn more facts that fiction about the artist. WHAT PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD? GIVE SPECIFIC DETAILS. As the front cover of the magazine is going to be very close up with hardly any background I want the double page spread to have more in the background. Typically 50% of a double page spread is taken up by an image however I would want the image to be the background of the article, so the writing will be on top of it. I want to do this as it gives you much more of an insight to the artists life etc. Because the front cover will be a close up long shot, I think a medium close up/extreme close up shot will be better for the double page spread. I was also contemplating of having a somewhat montage so somewhat crops of the artist, possibly in different moods to relate to the article but neatly organised so it doesn’t look to busy in the background or odd so I wouldn’t know where a piece of text should be. Furthermore it’s unlikely the artist will be facing the camera as I would want the pictures to show them ‘in their own world’ and show their true emotions and feelings.
