Academic Senate 9:45 GENERAL SESSION—ACCREDITATION KICKOFF “What to Expect” LF 103 In this session, members of the Academic Senate will participate in an “open forum” that could be requested by our accreditation visiting team. Academic Senate Student Learning Outcomes Now incorporated into Program Review Two-part process Instructor Reflections on Student Learning -Completed by individual faculty members -Focus on a single SLO per semester -Summarize evaluation results -How will evaluation results be used to improve student learning -Form stays with instructor Program Reflections on Student Learning -Summarizes Department or Group Dialog on SLOs -Describes action plans resulting from evaluation of student attainment of SLOs -Form is included in Program Review package Emphasizes professionals talking to professionals about teaching and student learning Provides opportunity to connect student learning and institutional planning
Academic Senate Student Learning Outcomes Whereas, the ultimate goal of the SLO-assessment process is to prompt dialog that leads to improvement of student learning, Whereas, the MPC Academic Senate wants to encourage wide-spread participation in the SLO-assessment process by broadening the kind and range of student skills and abilities that faculty members may choose to investigate when engaging in the SLO-assessment process, Resolved, that the MPC Academic Senate recommends that faculty members use broadly defined SLOs and/or specifically defined objectives, as they deem appropriate, when engaging in the SLO-Assessment process to improve student learning.
