  2. SCUBA • Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus • Individuals carry tanks of compressed air on their backs and breathe that air in order to remain under water for extended periods of time. • A typical dive is 20 to 50 minutes long and 20’ to 60’ feet deep.

About Blue Region Scuba • Open in April 1987 • Larry Cox - Owner / Instructor Certifier • Marilee Cox – Owner / Instructor Trainer • Blue Region Scuba has staff of 15 Open Water Instructors and Assistant Instructors to meet the teaching needs of students. Instructors are professionals including an ECU Professor that teaches the Master Educators Program at ECU. • Blue Region Scuba has focused the diving experience the the young people for the last 12 years

  4. Blue Region Scuba – Youth Programs • BRS has worked with many youth over the past 24 years, helping them develop into safe, responsible and confident divers. The youth have added many factors to our dive club and travel programs. • BRS offers a minimum of 2 trips during the winter specially designed for the youth to Central Florida to swim with the Manatee and enjoy diving the crystal clear waters of the Florida Springs.

Blue Region Scuba • What We Offer- Part 1 • A program that allows completion of all youth programs including the Boy Scout SCUBA Merit Badge requirements. • The Scuba Schools International Diver Program, an internationally recognized beginner level certification program, tailored to youth groups. • Instructor’s will provide information and work with the students on diving science, underwater ecology, diving physics, scuba equipment and safe scuba.

What We Offer – Part 2 • We have a knowledgeable staff with experience with youth, that is committed to making learning to dive safe, fun and an empowering experience • Special Pitt County School Program Tuition: A reduced price off BRS’s regular program tuition • We generally conduct the classroom sessions at our facility, but we can come to your location for the classroom sessions (with the exception of class 1)! This makes it easy to fit into regular meetings that you might have scheduled. • Pool and Open Water sessions require groups to meet at our facility in Greenville.

Tuition Regular Pitt Program Scuba Diver Class $320 $220 (includes for Pitt School program $100 worth of scuba equipment) Study Materials Scuba Diver Study Materials $85 $47 Log Book $38 $28 • Total for both programs, including materials $295 • Equipment – Course fee includes each individual’s mask, fin, snorkel and is theirs to keep • The cost for Open Water Certification Dives is not included in tuition. The dives are $15 per day

  9. Time Commitment • Approximately 5 classroom sessions generally lasting 1-2 hours each • 2 pool sessions during Saturday evenings • Two Open Water sessions – 2 full days from 9am to 5-6 pm • + Homework! Each student will need to complete several hours of homework before each classroom session

Time Frames/ Logistics • Classroom Sessions (~5) Can be scheduled on weekday evenings, Saturday mornings/afternoons, or Sunday afternoons/evenings • Pool Sessions (~2) Pool is taught on Saturday evenings, so it will not interfere with their school obligations. • Open Water Sessions (2) Two full days. During the summer this could be two weekdays. During the school year these sessions can be over a weekend

Class Sizes - Leaders / Parents • Minimum class size is 4 students • A class can involve students from multiple schools, Pitt teachers involved and Parents • Maximum is 8 persons per class • Registered Pitt teachers involved with program can join the class at the same discounted rate. Other adults will get a 10% discount off of standard tuition rates • Minimum age is 10 years old – no maximum age

Medical Issues • Issues that are likely to preclude one from Scuba Diving • Epilepsy, seizures, diabetes, history of blackouts/ fainting, spontaneously collapsed lung, severe asthma / diseases that constrict the lungs • This is not an all inclusive list, just major points. If you have a health concern, we will be happy to send you the medical forms that everyone fills out prior to water training, so you can consult with a physician before deciding if Scuba is for you. All participants in this program will be required to fill out a Medical History form prior to the water training.
