Unit 4 Lesson 4: Seafloor Geography • Agenda: • Identify features of the ocean floor. • Explain how ocean floor mapping helped explain continental drift
What does the bottom of the ocean look like? How do we know?
What is sonar? Sonar is a technique that uses sound to detect objects. What is bathymetric data? Data collected from measurement of the depths of oceans, seas, or other large bodies of water.
How is sonar used? Sound waves are sent from the ship towards the ocean floor. When the sound hits something, it goes back to the ship.
