  2. When students exhibit great behavior they can move their clip up. All students start the day on Ready to learn When students exhibit unacceptable behavior they can move their clip down.

  4. Uniform School • 2014-2015 Uniform Dress Code Policy • The Lost Lake Elementary School Advisory Council has established our mandatory uniform policy as follows: Monday through Thursday- • Tops:  Knit polo style collared shirts in white, navy blue, hunter green, light blue or pink. No T-shirts allowed Monday through Thursday. Tucked in shirttails are preferred. • Bottoms:  Shorts (fingertip length) or long pants (not baggy or form fitting), skirts, skorts, jumpers, or culottes in black, navy or khaki (solid color only).  No athletic shorts please. Belts are preferred but optional.  Leggings or stockings in solid black, blue or white only must be worn under a jumper or skirt. Fridays only- • Jeans on Friday must be fully intact appropriately worn jeans (not baggy or form fitting), without fashionable rips or tears. Jeans can be worn with any Lost Lake shirt or solid color polo  • Footwear:  Tennis shoes or shoes with an enclosed heel are preferred.  Sandals must have a heel strap.

  5. Volunteer • Volunteers who are new this year or expired in the old paper system must apply online. 2. Once you’ve completed this application, let your child’s teacher know. 3.  Your child’s teacher will email our volunteer coordinator (Mrs. Mabry). • If you need to be a level 1 or2, and it will be submitted for approval.Level 1-After initial application- No action needed on the part of the volunteer. FDLE does background check.Level 2- When submitted by the school, an email is generated and the parent will receive a FDLE VECHS waiver.  Volunteer must mail in the waiver directly to Kellie Babauta in Human Resources.  The address is on the waiver. • When HR receives the waiver for Level 2's, you will receive an access code for fingerprinting. • Your child’s teacher will let you know when you’ve been approved.

  6. Homework will be in the red folder on Friday. All homework will be collected on Friday. • Monday: Practice spelling words on spelling city or/ and writing each word in a sentence. • Tuesday:Pick a writing prompt from the monthly calendar and write 3 or more sentences. • Wednesday: Read weekly story and answer questions in complete sentences. • Thursday: Math Worksheets • Friday: Read a book and write the title on your read recognition log.

  7. Lunch: 11:36-12:06 pm. Recess: 1:00-1:25 p.m. Snack:You can send in a snack for your child daily. Dismissal: 3:10 p.m. Wed. 2:15 p.m. Enrichment: 2:05-2:45 p.m. (see schedule below)

  8. Student Illness • Student must be fever free for 24 hours before return to school (without the aid of Tylenol or other medication). • Hand washing daily is practiced in the classroom (before lunch and after restrooms use). • Hand sanitizer are located throughout the room.

  9. 1st field trip- Schoolhouse Rock at • East Ridge High school will be in Oct. • 2nd field trip- Sea World will be in the March 2015. More information will be sent home.

  10. Party and Snack Snacks, Parties, and Holiday Sharing • Store bought goodies are acceptable. • Snacks should be LOW SUGAR. • If you send a snack, your child will eat it at the end of the day before Enrichment. • If your child cannot participate in celebrations, please let me know. • Birthday Parties are now limited to a treat handed out in class. • Please let me know if you have any allergyconcerns.

  11. Class Assessments • Renaissance Accelerated Reader – (AR) Testing will begin soon. Books from media and classroom library. Passing with an 80% or better. • Star Reading – Tested for reading level . Your child’s reading level goal will be 2.0 or higher by the end of the year. • F.A.I.R. Testing- a comprehensive set of reading assessments to support instructional decision making and student learning that focuses on assessment for learning, focus on elements of reading, and is tied to the Florida state standards. It will help teachers diagnose student needs. (Proficient is 1.5 by the end of the year)

Reading Block = (90 minutes) • Phonics- We will focus on a weekly phonic skills. • High Frequency Words- We will practice reading high frequency words weekly. • Weekly Reading Comprehension Stories – • Daily 5 centers- read to self, read to someone, word work, writing, computer and teacher • Grammar- We will learn a weekly grammar skill and practice the skill. • Writing-We will learn a writing craft and practice the craft throughout the week. • ROAR- 30 minutes Intensive small group instruction

Reading Grades: • Fluency - Fluency will be graded every other week, using the Fluency Assessment from McGraw-Hill Wonders Series. • Comprehension- Short answer and extended response questions about the fluency passage from the McGraw-Hill Wonders Series. • Sight Words – graded at the end of each unit with grade-level-created check sheet. Words from the McGraw-Hill wonders Series. • Time:

Language Arts Grades: • Spelling – Words of the week in correlation with the phonics sound of the week from McGraw-Hill Series. • Writing (Published Product) – Published product from each unit (approximately every 2 weeks) graded using the graduated rubric, with applied strategies from McGraw-Hill Wonders Series and Thinking Maps. • Grammar - Page from McGraw-Hill Wonders Series or grade-level-created performance task. • Vocabulary –On weeks where the published product utilizes texts from Unit 4-6 of the McGraw-Hill Wonders series. Graded using a page taken from McGraw-Hill Wonders Beyond Practice Book or grade-level-created performance task.

  15. Our science curriculum is Florida Interactive Science Pearson • We have wonderful leveled readers to teach scientific facts along with interactive experiments. • In late Fall, we have our Annual Science Fair Night. Parents are invited to visit our school to see the experiments..

In Grade 1, instructional time focus on four critical areas: (1) developing understanding of addition, subtraction, and strategies for addition and subtraction within 20; (2) developing understanding of whole number relationships and place value, including grouping in tens and ones; (3) developing understanding of linear measurement and measuring lengths as iterating length units; and (4) reasoning about attributes of, and composing and decomposing geometric shapes.

Our social studies curriculum is Pearson My World • We have interesting leveled readers to teach history along with great topics like good citizens, American leaders, geography, maps and globe. • Every child will learn the importance of social studies along with current events. • In the Spring, we will have our annual Multicultural Festival. We will go on an adventure around the world visiting each continent.

  18. As a grade level, we are encouraging student to write every day following the writing process.
