Shades of Blue160 Ichiro Tsuruta

The assigning of symbolic meanings to colors is probably as old as symbolism itself. In fact, words are well adapted for description and the arousing of emotion, but for many kinds of precise thought other symbols are much better. (John B. S. Haldane).

  42. Ichiro Tsuruta is a Japanese painter born in 1954, famous for his beautiful paintings of Japanese women with a unique touch which became famous when she was used in a cosmetics commercial (in 1987, Ichiro Tsuruta was selected as an advertisement for Noevir cosmetics and became popular as a pioneer of commercial art, and the women in his work continue to fascinate many people) In recent years, he has taken up the challenge of not only painting beauties but also large paintings such as Buddhist paintings. His unique beauty paintings are said to be influenced by Buddhist art"I want to draw my own muse." In fact, his paintings are influenced by ‘Ukiyo-e’ the ancient Japanese paintings of young woman such as ‘Utamaro’ and ‘Hokusai’. Then he diversifies the style by fusing European ‘Artdeco’ style. A beautiful woman, that alone provides more than enough reason for him to paint. Nonetheless, painting a beautiful young woman is the main theme of his paintings.
