MAKERERE UNIVERSITY The good and bad
Makerere University, Kampala is Uganda's largest and third-oldest institution of higher learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. In 1963, it became the University of East Africa, offering courses leading to general degrees from the University of London. It became an independent national university in 1970 when the University of East Africa was split into three independent universities: University of Nairobi (Kenya), University of Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), and Makerere University. Today, Makerere University is composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000 undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.
QUALITY EDUCATION • Makerere University has been ranked one of the best universities in Africa due its quality education services.
INFRASTRUCTURE • The university over time has developed various structures such as roads, a swimming pool, sports field, classrooms, churches, etc all which have facilitated smooth running of university activities as well as improved welfare of the university stakeholders.
INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES • The university gives opportunities to students to do internships in their field of study. This exposes them to the work environment and fortunately some get retain employment in their internship placements.

SEX FOR MARKS There have been many cases of sexual activities between students and lecturers in exchange for marks over the years.
STRIKES • There are a lot of strikes at Makerere University. • Both the teaching and non teaching stuff as well as lecturers usually indulge in strikes
LECTURER ABSEENTISM • There is a problem of lecturer absenteeism at the university for various lessons for example poor facilitation of lecturers, delayed salary payment, etc
