  1. Entering the Classroom and Opening Routine (10 minutes) • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • Students will enter the classroom with quiet voices • Voices will be off for attendance and remainder of opening work time. • HELP • Students may go to teacher if they need assistance or have a question/comment. • Please remember to respect the teacher work area and belongings • Activity: • Students will be focused on gathering all necessary materials for class: texts, notebook/paper, pen or sharpened pencil, homework, an other materials necessary for the lesson • Students will use opening time to complete Daily 6-1 writing /grammar work. • Movement: • Students may move around the classroom to gather necessary materials, sharpen pencils, hand in or pick up work, get or throw away tissue, etc. • Once materials are gathered, student will sit quietly at their assigned desk, working on opening time 6-1 writing/grammar work. • Participation • Students will show active participation by having necessary materials ready to go at the end of opening routine and will be actively working on 6-1 writing/grammar packets. • Students who do not use this time wisely, will have a difficult time participating in the rest of class! • Stay FOCUSED and on task…you only have three minutes!

  2. Teacher Directed Instruction:Teacher is talking • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • NONE. Voices will remain OFF until called upon by teacher • HELP • Students will raise hand and wait patiently to be called on. • Students may make a note to themselves to help them remember their question. • Students will continue to listen to instruction or classmate comments while waiting. • Activity: • Students will actively participate by taking notes, completing worksheets, following along to selected reading, correcting work as directed by teacher, and participating in discussion related to instruction. • Movement: • None. All materials should be gathered during Opening Routine • Participation • Students will participate by asking content related questions, making content related comments, and by focusing on materials. • Stay FOCUSED and on task

  3. Independent Work • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • NONE. Voices will remain silent during work time. • HELP • Students will raise hand and wait patiently for teacher to assist them • Students will continue working until teacher arrives to assist them • Activity: • Students will remain focused on work the entire time. • Students will follow directions carefully and refer to directions to ensure the work is completed to the best of their ability. • If students finish work early, students may read silently or work on other homework. • Movement: • None. Students were given time at the beginning of class to get prepared for activities. • Participation • Teacher will be watching for silent, focused work. Teachers expect detailed, thought provoking questions, comments, and answers to questions and discussion points. • Teachers are looking for the best effort from each student. • Stay FOCUSED and on task.

Small Group Activities • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • Students will use quiet voices during activity • Students will only speak with members of their own group. • Students will keep conversation focused on task at hand. • HELP • Students will raise hand and wait patiently for teacher to assist them • Students will continue working until teacher arrives to assist them • Activity: • Students will remain focused on activity the entire time. • Students will follow specific activity guidelines and refer to them to ensure work is completed to the best of the group’s ability. • All members of the group will be given the opportunity to and expected to participate. • Movement: • Students will be given a specific amount of time to get into assigned groups. • If needed, students will be given a specific amount of time to gather necessary materials. • Once materials are gathered, students will remain at desks with group. • Participation • Teacher will be watching for team work and focus • Depending on the activity, students will be required to produce group work to be turned into the teacher or presented to the class. • Stay FOCUSED and on task.

  5. Quizzes and Tests • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • None. Students are expected to remain silent during entire testing period. • If you are talking, I am forced to assume you are being dishonest during the test • HELP • Students will raise hand and wait patiently for teacher assistance. • Students will continue working on quiz/test until teacher arrives to assist. • Activity: • Students will remain focused on THEIR quiz/test for entire testing time. • If a student finishes before the allotted time expires, students will read silently at their desk. • Movement: • NONE. • Student will raise their hand when the are finished with the quiz/test and the teacher will come around to collect. • Participation • Teacher will be watching for focused work and focused eyes. • Stay FOCUSED and on task.

Bathroom Usage • C • H • A • M • P • S • Conversation: • Students should have low “level 2 voices” when using restroom during transitions • Students allowed to use restroom during class time will be silent. Remember, classes are in session! • HELP • Students may use restroom during transitions without requesting permission • During class, students must raise hand to request EMERGENCY use of restroom • Activity: • Student will have bathroom pass on them at all times. • Student will use the facilities, wash hands, and exit quickly • Student will make sure shirts are tucked in BEFORE exiting the restroom. • Students will rejoin class quietly and without disruption • Movement: • Students will walk through hallway silently • Students will enter restroom quietly • Students will use facilities, tuck in shirt, wash hands, placing trash in trash basket. • Students will rejoin class quietly and without disruption • Participation • Students will take advantage of restrooms during transitions • Restroom use during class time is for EMERGENCIES only. • Stay FOCUSED. Bathrooms are not for socializing.
