Function & Environmental Issues • The FQPA requires a new safety standard reasonable certainty of no harm that must be applied to all pesticides used on food commodities. • Providing special protections for fetuses, infants, and children. • Make approvals for safer pesticides. • It reflects how implementation furthers EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment and assures all Americans access to safe and affordable foods.

  4. FQPA mandates development and distribution of a food safety brochure on health effects of pesticides. • The FQPA amended the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticided Act and the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic by changing the way that the (EPA) evaluates and regulates pesticides.

  5. created an environment favorable for the development and adoption of lower risk, effective crop protection tools for U.S. agriculture. • The Food Quality Protection Act of 1996 required EPA to review the safety of all existing tolerances that were in effect as of August 1996. The EPA was required to renew most of the tolerances.
