An Advisors role is to have limited interaction and allow the club officers to manage all activities. • True • False
An effective advisor should be aware of all club plans and activities. • Advisors must also approve club activities and fliers and sign appropriate forms. (Semester and renewal reports, event proposal, flier approval form, C.A.B. forms, and travel forms).
Your role as the mediator • Help the party set ground rules for the discussion • Each party will listen without interrupting. • No name calling. • Respectful body language. • Each person will “own” his or her own statements and feelings • Time limits on each person’s turn to speak (2 minutes). • Ask students if they’d like to add to the rules.
Mediation • Allow each party uninterrupted time to state what they see as the main problems or issues to be worked out. • Ask each party to state possible solutions • Help the party agree on some possible solutions, by re-iterating what has been said, suggesting possible compromises, and trying to help generate other alternative solutions.
Mediation • The mediator should help the parties put the agreement in writing, have the parties sign, and then sign it as a witness. Each party should receive a copy. • The mediator should periodically follow up with the parties to see how things are going, and help the parties address any concerns that arise. • You may also call on Student Life to take care of any mediation situations!!
Advisors and student organizations are not authorized to enter into contracts with any vendor. • True • False
Agreements with vendors must go through the Office of Student Life • Advisors will become personally liable if they sign a contract with a vendor.
$$ Campus Activity Funding board $$The place to go for money for your club! • Meeting dates will be published in the student newspaper Accent, online and posted in all seven Student Life offices. Meetings are held twice a month at the Highland Business Center. • A completed application for funding must be submitted no later than six weeks prior to the event or travel or CAFB will not consider the proposal. • Must have the Risk Management Training completed by all members before applying to C.A.B. for travel funds (See Travel Section). • Must have attended Nuts & Bolts. • Clubs may request a maximum of $3,000 a year
CAB Funding Areas • Campus Activities (social, educational, community service, recognition, etc.) • Diversity Events (celebrating diverse cultures, music, food, demographics, etc.) • Leadership Events (lecture series, conferences, speakers etc.) • Professional Development (conferences, workshops, seminars, study abroad etc.) • Promotional (shirts, give-a-ways, etc.) • Must use ACC vendors for promotional items, etc. See CAB application for resources.
When traveling the club advisor is liable if the club does not comply with the ACC Travel Policy. • True • False
A few things you should know about the Travel Policy • All off-campus trips by Recognized Clubs & Orgs, funded by Student Life or other sources mustbe approved by the Office of Student Life. See travel paperwork within the Club Handbook. • Submit the Travel Proposal form and travel financial documentation to SL four weeks before the traveling is scheduled • Must have Risk Management Training completed • Advisors may take online • 3 officers must be trained by SL staff and train remaining members • The Office of Risk Management must be notified 48 hours prior to trips more than 25 miles from Austin City Limits. • 10:1 student advisor ratio
